Lenovo enters Qatar smartphone market with compelling, diverse portfolio
Lenovo announced the launch of its smartphone portfolio for the first time in Qatar, carefully designed to fit every style, personality and budget. Lenovo smartphones cater to top-end users, stylish trendsetters, multi-media enthusiasts, social media aficionados and conscious spender.
Newly launched worldwide, the highly anticipated Vibe Z2 Pro is the hottest Lenovo smartphone to hit the market, designed with the performance-hungry user in mind. Exhibiting a large 6-inch screen with 2K resolution, the VIBE Z2 Pro offers consumers an immersive multimedia experience. An advanced 16MP rear camera with image stabilization effortlessly captures brilliant photos and 4K videos rivaling high-end compact cameras. At just 7.7mm thin with a unique metallic brushed-weave design, the VIBE Z2 Pro promises stellar performance, in style, with the blazingly fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.
VIBE Z2 Pro offers a wide range of pro photography features and, unlike other smartphones, the integrated 16MP rear camera uses a 16:9 BSI sensor that captures widescreen photos at full resolution. 4K resolution and high-speed 120fps recordings are also supported.
Optical image stabilization and an enhanced 6 element lens are incorporated to boost the already strong low-light shooting performance of the BSI senor. Shutterbugs will also appreciate Zero Shutter Lag, manual shooting settings and a HDR-ready custom SNAPit camera app. The VIBE Z2 Pro can be further set apart by its 6-inch display, producing razor-sharp and true-to-life visuals. The IPS panel not only packs 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, its 490ppi screen density is also one of the highest among existing premium smartphones.
Rated at 500nits maximum brightness output, the display is easily viewable outdoors coupled with richer colours and wide viewing angles. In addition, with 83.5% of the usable screen estate, users can view more content, thanks to an ultra-narrow frame design. The first wave of Lenovo smartphones launched in Qatar hit the market in August and include the dual-SIM and quad-core S-series with the slim and fashionable S850 with its 5-inch HD display and all-glass design; the S860 with its 5.3-inch HD display and epic 4000mAh battery, delivering up to 24 hours’ talk time on 3G and 43 hours on 2G, plus 40 days’ active standby; the S650 with its 4.7-inch HD display and laser-etched, fabric-feel cover with a 3D-textured design.
In addition to the S-series, Lenovo has launched the affordable A369i with dual-SIM and 4-inch display, running on its powerful 1.3GHz dual-core processor. September will see the release of the high-performance and blazingly fast Vibe Z2 Pro, along with five other models, bringing Lenovo’s total Qatar portfolio to 10 smartphones.
Commenting on the launch of the new smartphone portfolio, Shashank Sharma, Director, Mobile Business Group at Lenovo Middle East and Africa, said, “The Middle East, GCC in particular, is a strategically important market for Lenovo’s smartphones. With the continued expansion of 4G networks in the region, and a strong push towards smart cities and connectivity, there is a natural consumer need for smartphones at all levels. Lenovo fans have been asking us to bring our products to the market, and we’re happy to finally be able to provide consumers with our flagship smartphones.” “Lenovo is world’s fourth smartphone vendor and continues to develop new designs and features to fit our consumers’ various needs. Supporting Lenovo’s long-term goal to lead the PC+ era, and the growing popularity of our smartphones worldwide, speaks volume of our product innovation and commitment to meet the changing market requirements and consumer demands,” Shashank added.
“According to Ipsos MediaCT report, smartphone users in Middle East and Africa are expected to reach 156.4 million in 2014 and 251.9 million by 2017,” added Sharay Shams, Head of Smartphone Business at Lenovo Middle East and Africa. “Qatar is a great example of the mobile boom, with mobile penetration at approximately 100%, according to the 2013 Qatar ICT Landscape report by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (currently the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology). As smartphones continue to capture a larger market share of the mobile phone market, there is a tremendous potential for smartphone growth in Qatar that we are confident of tapping into. This year, we are seeing a hunger for smartphones and an increase in mobile data usage, enabling a new world of mobile business, entertainment and social networking,” Shams concluded.
Select models of Lenovo’s smartphones will also come equipped with a range of DOit apps; with the award-winning SHAREit, users can instantly share pictures, videos, music files, documents, contacts and even apps with up to five devices without an Internet connection. It wirelessly transfers information or even the app itself between devices at up to 40x faster than Bluetooth. SECUREit optimizes and protects users’ mobile data with its menu of data-protection tools. With a single touch, it protects against viruses, spam and malware, and if the tablet becomes lost or stolen, anti-theft protection locks it down. SECUREit acts as a privacy guard to protect against unwarranted access to users’ private information and also makes the tablet operate faster by taking actions such as closing redundant background apps.
Lenovo smartphones will be available at all major retailers and will be distributed in Qatar through Redington for organized retail and through Axiom for independent retail. Axiom will also provide after sales support.
