Westin and Le Meridien to debut in Bahrain
Following an agreement between Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and Majid Al Futtaim Properties, the debuts of The Westin and Le Méridien in Bahrain have been scheduled for July. Located in the heart of Manama, The Westin Bahrain City Centre and Le Méridien Bahrain City Centre will be in close proximity to popular tourist and commercial venues, such the Manama Souq, King Faisal Corniche and the Diplomatic Area. The two hotels will collectively add 460 rooms to Starwood’s portfolio in Bahrain.
Both hotels are directly linked to Bahrain City Centre, which is the country’s most popular shopping and entertainment destination and is owned by Majid Al Futtaim Properties. Bahrain City Centre is home to 350 international retail outlets, 50 restaurants, a temperature-controlled water park Wahoo, VOX Cinemas and a bowling centre.
“We have a strong presence in the country, dating back to 1981 when we opened the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel. We look forward to expanding our footprint here, with the opening of these two distinct lifestyle brands later this year,” says Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Europe, Africa and the Middle East region.
The Westin Bahrain City Centre will feature 200 guest rooms, including six executive suites and one presidential suite. All rooms will feature renowned Westin Heavenly Beds® and Heavenly Baths®, enhanced with the brand’s Heavenly® Showers, Heavenly® Robes and latest modern in-room technology. The Westin Bahrain City Centre will also offer five dining venues and more than 6,500 square feet of ultra-modern event space.
The Heavenly Spa by Westin™ will offer an array of treatments, while the WestinWORKOUT® will include state-of-the-art fitness equipment and a swimming pool.
Le Méridien Bahrain City Centre will offer 260 contemporary guest rooms, including 18 executive suites and one presidential suite, all fitted with signature Le Méridien BedsÒ. The hotel will feature three dining venues, including the brand’s signature Latitude coffee bar and lounge and an all-day dining restaurant. The hotel will also comprise 5,000-plus square feet of modern event and meeting areas, including one business centre and ballroom and five meeting rooms.
Le Méridien Bahrain City Centre will feature the signature Le Méridien Hub™, which re-interprets the traditional lobby into a social place for people to converse and exchange ideas, providing both guests and locals with a creative atmosphere that features contemporary and curated artworks.

Starwood operates 50 hotels and resorts across the Middle East region under eight of its nine brands, including The Luxury Collection, St. Regis, Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, Le Méridien, Four Points by Sheraton and Aloft.
The company has plans to further expand its portfolio in the region, with a pipeline of more than 35 hotels to open by 2017.
