Porsche’s continuous dedication to innovation and heritage of luxury performance sports cars will take centre stage at this week’s Qatar Motor Show with the regional debut of the Macan, The model marks Porsche’s pioneering steps and extends the SUV offerings of the brand and has unmistakably created the first sports car in the fast-growing compact SUV segment.
Poised to set new standards in driving dynamics and enjoyment, both on and off the road, the Macan boasts the typical sporty handling characteristics which have become synonymous with the Porsche brand. Many of the design and performance elements have been inspired by other Porsche sports cars, including the iconic 911 and the 918 Spyder, making it clear that the compact SUV heralds the first of its kind.
Christer Ekberg, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, says: “I look forward to unveiling the new Macan this Thursday. Right from the first design sketches I was convinced that this car will be something very special. I am certain that the fifth model series is set to revolutionise the segment with an injection of pure Porsche DNA; the sporty dynamics and performance the brand is renowned for. We have recorded tremendous success with the Cayenne year on year and expect the new Macan to be a key contributor to our growth across the Middle East in the future.”
Featuring exceptional acceleration, vast engine power, extreme agility and optimum steering precision, the Macan is set to rewrite the rulebook on outstanding sporting comfort and everyday usability. Showcased in Qatar will be the Macan Turbo, one of three models comprising the Macan product range at market launch next to the Macan S and the Macan S Diesel.
As the top derivative, the Macan Turbo is set to be the most powerful petrol-powered vehicle in the compact SUV segment. The 3.6-litre V6 biturbo engine, which is being used in a Porsche model for the very first time, achieves an unrivalled 400 hp and catapults the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. With the Sport Chrono package fitted, this speed can be reached in just 4.6 seconds.
Pushing back the boundaries of technology whilst remaining true to an unrivalled legacy has become a hallmark of the brand and is most recently evidenced in the design of the Macan. Selected chassis technologies derived from the 911 are deployed to provide the handling characteristics typical of a sports car in a compact SUV with a flat and broad profile which embodies sportiness, dynamism and precision. The wrap-around bonnet and gently sloping roof line at the rear end, pays homage to the iconic 911; the rear wings also feature the soft profile of the legendary sports car. The Macan is fitted with a multi-function sports steering wheel as standard, a completely new design based on the 918 Spyder.
Representing the most powerful vehicle in its segment, the new Porsche Macan Turbo will be on display at the brand’s stand at the Qatar Motor Show in Doha, from 21 – 25 February 2014.
