New Jaguar Land Rover vehicles will be electric from 2020, according to a statement released by the company Thursday.

“Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice. We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year,” said Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, in the statement.

Electric cars: worldwide success

In fact, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a recent report that registrations of electric cars hit a new record in 2016, with more than 750,000 sales worldwide.

The report said that, with a 29 percent market share, Norway has incontestably achieved the most successful deployment of electric cars in terms of market share globally.

Another report by released by Dutch Bank ING predicts that electric vehicles (EVs) will become the new normal in Europe within just two decades.

“Electric cars are on a breakthrough – and even faster than we thought. The major reservations people still have – charging infrastructure, range anxiety and pricing – will be overcome within the next seven years,” it said.

In the past few years, most car manufacturers entered the EV market.

Here are Jaguar’s listed electric models:

 Jaguar E-type Zero

Described by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car in the world”, the E-type Zero is based on a 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster and features a cutting-edge electric powertrain for 0-60mph in just 5.5sec.

 Jaguar I-PACE Concept

With I-PACE Jaguar started with a clean sheet and engineered a bespoke, tailored, pure electric SUV from the ground up.

Jaguar FUTURE-TYPE

The Jaguar FUTURE-TYPE is a vision for the car of 2040 and beyond. The fully autonomous virtual concept explores mobility for the connected world of tomorrow, where vehicles could be shared and not owned.

At its heart is Sayer, an intelligent steering wheel. Sayer is the first voice-activated AI steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. The advanced speech recognition software will allow it to answer questions, connect to the news, organise a user’s travel and select entertainment.
