Kuwait shuts down two dailies for defying blackout orders

Kuwait’s information ministry has shut down Al-Watan and Alam Al-Youm newspapers for the second time in less than two months, for breaking a blackout on an alleged coup plot, Kuwait Times has reported. The five-day suspension came following an order by a special judge after the ministry last week referred the two dailies for investigation for defying the blackout order. Al-Watan, owned by senior ruling family member, Sheikh Ali Al-Khalifa Al-Sabah, and Alam Al-Youm, a pro-opposition daily, were suspended for two weeks between April 21 and May 4.
