A new partnership has been signed between Turner Broadcasting, a division of Time Warner, and My-HD, the first and only ultra-low pay TV platform in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The deal sees four heavyweight channels added to My-HD’s distinctive suite of programming: CNN International HD, HLN (Headline News), Cartoon Network Arabic +2 and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). This is the first time that CNNi HD in DTH technology (Direct to Home) and HLN are available in the region.
CNN International HD enables viewers to follow a compelling mix of live breaking international news and business, documentary, sport and feature output in a remarkably sharper image. Available to more than two billion people worldwide, CNN was awarded ‘News Channel of the Year’ by the Royal Television Society in 2013 and 2014.
HLN is a CNN Worldwide channel focusing on the ‘must-see, must-share’ stories of the day for the social media generation. The channel covers a broad segment of fast-paced and engaging topics ranging from parenting to money matters and celeb news. Cartoon Network Arabic, one of the leading children’s entertainment channels in the MENA region, has a time shift version, enabling subscribers to watch their favourite cartoons 2 hours after their original broadcast. On air since 2010, Cartoon Network Arabic is known for some of the most popular comedy and action-adventure animation, including the hit shows Amazing World of Gumball, Ben 10: Omniverse and Adventure Time.
The award-winning TCM network is a 24-hour broadcasting film channel and world-renowned for airing a rich blend of classics from all genres and ages. The channel has also defined ‘new classics’ by presenting timeless contemporary productions that will continue to be watched for generations.
Cliff Nelson, CEO, My-HD, said, “We are very pleased to have partnered with the globally-renowned Turner Broadcasting to add CNNi HD, HLN, Cartoon Network Arabic, and TCM to our range of premium channels. Our new partnership with Turner proves our strong commitment to bringing the best in the world of television to our ever-growing base of loyal subscribers.”
“With Cartoon Network Arabic +2, our subscribers have double the opportunity to watch their favourite programs. It also makes primetime more suitable for our subscribers in North African markets,” added Nelson, who founded My-HD platform based on over 20 years of experience in the industry.
Commenting on the partnership, Rani R. Raad, Chief Commercial Officer CNN International and Managing Director for Turner Broadcasting in the Middle East, said, “In addition to our portfolio of leading channels like CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network Arabic, and Turner Classic Movies, we are thrilled to broaden our offering to include further two channels. We are confident that HLN’s unique mix of social media-inspired content will appeal to the audience in the MENA region. The channel is already a huge success in the United States, providing updates to 99 million households each day.”
