The UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) is concluding its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, with the last of two daily reading sessions held at its Stand.
Held daily, the reading sessions covered the winning books of the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature, organised by the UAEBBY with active support from the UAE’s leading telecoms provider Etisalat.
During the reading sessions, a storyteller read one of the winning books of Etisalat Award. Children who visited the book fair enjoyed a number of exciting and fun storytellings that included reading session from the books ‘Creatures on the Ceiling’, and ‘Ana Oheb’ (I Love), written by Nabiha Mheidly, and the book ‘My Mum Jadida’ by UAE writer Mariam Suhail Al Rashedi.
The readings sessions also included the book ‘Al Noqta Al Sawda’ (The Black Dot) written and illustrated by Walid Taher, and the book ‘Teeri Ya Tayara’ (Fly Away Kite) written by Amani Al Ashmawi, and other books, in the presence of a number of parents and teachers who shared the pleasure of reading with their children.
Marwa Obaid Al Aqroubi, President of the UAEBBY Executive Board, underlined the importance of making use of the book fairs in enhancing communication and connecting with children and young people, to encourage them to make reading a daily habit, due to the role of reading in the personality development in children and young people and expanding their knowledge about various aspects of life. “Reading helps stimulate children’s imagination and creative interests, and make them better able to understand and deal with the circumstances surrounding them,” she expounded.
The UAEBBY Stand enables its visiting publishers to obtain application forms for participation in the sixth edition of the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature. It also provides the talented writers and illustrators with all the information on how to participate in the workshops and training courses organized by the UAEBBY with the aim of nurturing the creative talent in the UAE, through ‘Warsha’ and ‘Books – Made in UAE’ programmes.
