MEC, the world’s fifth-largest media agency network, has launched a new brand content division, MEC Wavemaker, in ten markets including the Middle East.

The new division brings together experts on “content strategy, social, partnerships, experiential, SEO, production and creative services under one roof,” a statement released by MEC read.

Upon its launch, Wavemaker will cater to clients in ten markets, but the unit is looking to expand into 20 more during the remainder of 2016. It will aim to “create content that measurably improves a brand’s performance,” the statement added.

While other agencies may have content experts in different departments, MEC defines the new unit as “a radically different approach to content creation that will further enhance our client’s online offering in a unique and effective way that boosts brand performance,” explained Mohan Nambiar, CEO, MEC Wavemaker.

The new department houses more than 20 staff members in the MENA region, a number that is expected to grow as the unit ventures into new markets.

MEC is one of GroupM’s many media buying agencies.
