Ogilvy to represent UAE at Cannes International Festival of Creativity
The winners of the UAE Young Lions Competition were announced at an event hosted by Dubai Media City. The winning team, Maram Ashour and Conrad Theron from international advertising firm Ogilvy, will represent the UAE at the Cannes Lions International Festival in June 2014, with the chance to win the highly coveted Young Lions Award.
The UAE Young Lions Competition, held in partnership with DMC, is part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the world’s largest awards ceremony celebrating creativity, which brings together 12,000 people from 94 countries for a week of learning, networking and celebration.
The competition is open to creative teams under the age of 28, consisting of an art director and copywriter. 12 teams were involved in the competition, and were given 24 hours to create a print ad based on a brief given to them by Medecins Sans Frontieres, one of the world’s leading independent organisations for medical humanitarian aid. Over the past few years, briefs have been provided by the UN World Food Programme, Make A Wish Foundation and Al Noor, and the teams’ artwork was judged by a panel of experts, with first, second and third prizes awarded to the most imaginative and creative teams.
The silver prize was awarded to a team from Lowe and bronze to a team from JWT.
Speaking after the event, Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director, TECOM’s Media Cluster, said, “DMC has partnered with this innovative competition for more than five years, and we are delighted that today’s winning team will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity in Cannes. The Young Lions Award is a highly coveted prize, and the Cannes International Festival of Creativity is an internationally-renowned festival of excellence. The UAE has a track record of success at the festival, with the UAE team taking home Silver in 2012, and I am optimistic that this year’s winners will continue this tradition.”
