Sharjah Media Center contributes facilities, 10 equipped media centers during AWST 2014
The Second Arab Women Sports Tournament, hosted in Sharjah and commencing from February 2 to 12, 2014, has signed an agreement of cooperation with Sharjah Media Center. The agreement sees the center as AWST’s strategic media partner, with an objective to enhance media coverage for the Tournament by establishing short-term media centers at the ten different venues hosting the AWST 2014 competitions.
The agreement was signed at Sharjah Media Center’s premises in Sharjah, by Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Head of Executive Committee and Manager of AWST, and Mr. Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Center, in the attendance of Reem bin Karam, Head of the Communications and Events Committee at AWST, and Hessa Al Hammadi, Strategic Communication Coordinator at SMC.
According to this agreement, the Sharjah Media Center will set up integrated media centers to facilitate journalists’ in achieving their tasks and assignments during the Tournament at the venues hosting the various competitions. These venues include: The Higher Colleges of Technology Sharjah, Al-Shaab Cultural & Sports Club, Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped, Al Andalus School, Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Dhaid Sports & Cultural Club, Wasit Youth Center, Sharjah University, Sharjah Cultural and Sports Club. The main media centre will be headquartered at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sharjah.
Moreover, the Sharjah Media Center will provide a team of specialists belonging to various media domains, offering support services to media channels and representatives who will be covering the AWST 2014. These services will also be extended to Arabic and international VIP media representatives, starting with an introduction of the Tournament and its many events.
Commenting on this occasion, Nada Askar Al Naqbi expressed her contentment in having Sharjah Media Center as a media partner for the AWST. She praised the Center’s experience and expertise in covering major events hosted in Sharjah, and the role played by media institutions like SMC in highlighting important achievements of the UAE in every sporting domain, including the current prestigious tournament, which brings together the best Arabic female athletes all in one place.
Al Naqbi mentioned that the Organizing Committee is looking forward to great media coverage for the competitions during the 11 days of the Tournament, pointing out that such coverage would constitute great support to women sports in the Arab World, and encouragement for Arab women to reach the podium in regional and international sports events, in addition to affirming the capabilities of Sharjah and the UAE in general in hosting such major events.
On his part, Mr. Osama Samra, Sharjah Media Center Director, said that the Center is proud of this partnership, and of being a media sponsor for AWST 2014, praising this Tournament for being the first of its kind locally and regionally, attracting a great deal of attention since its debut in 2012, and its further development into an official tournament hosted by Sharjah biennially, building sound foundations for women sports in the Arab World.

AWST 2014 will see 900 female athletes from 14 Arab countries competing in 7 games, including Basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, and athletics.
