The US has decided to cancel its broadcasting outreach in Eastern Europe and Iraq and expand its services in Africa and Asia “with video and digital initiatives targeting next-generation audiences,” PJ Media has reported. The US’ Radio Free Europe (RFE) and Radio Liberty (RL) were established during the Cold War as a way to broadcast unbiased news to Eastern Europe to combat Communist propaganda and since then expanded coverage to many other countries and languages. The Iraq service began in 1998, and is also broadcast to diaspora communities.
