Bahrain Ministry of Industry and Commerce launches initiative to develop national policy for entrepreneurship
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce launches an initiative to develop a national policy for entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Bahrain in light of Ministry’s strategy concerned with small and medium sector and entrepreneurship.
This came during the 18th meeting of the Main Committee to Coordinate & Integrate SME Activities which was chaired by Dr. Hassan Fakhro in presence of CEO of Injaz Bahrain and Chairperson of Al Salam Bank Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa and representatives from Ministries and government and private institutions; Economic Development Board, Tamkeen, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bahrain Businesswomen Society, Ebdaa Bank, Bahrain Businessmen’s Society, Bahrain small and medium enterprises society, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Bahraini Young Entrepreneurs Association, Supreme Council for Environment, and private sector representatives.
The minister stressed on the importance to put a special policy for entrepreneurship sector given the importance of this sector and the economic role played by small and medium enterprises in the national economy, to unite the efforts of the concerned authorities in this regard and unite its visions as well as to create a favorable environment for business, and enhance competitive strength of these institutions in front of global competition, as well as to overcome obstacles to ensure the growth of this sector.
The meeting also discussed the developments of Ministry’s initiative on the issuing of special law for small and medium enterprises, and the most prominent means to integrate small and medium enterprises project in the proposed law. This initiative comes in the context of many other steps assumed by Bahrain in preparing young national cadres and trains them to enter pioneer work field, and to investment in these sectors that an upward growing.
On the other hand, the meeting discussed some of issues and developments related to small and medium enterprises sector falling on the agenda and reviewed that latest development related to the previous meeting and the action taken by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and other relevant parties in order to streamline the workflow.
Then, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry gave a visual presentation about a center to support small and medium enterprises, which aims to provide services for Chamber members of entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises. They also reviewed the services provided by the center which includes configuration and empowerment, consulting, financial links, technological links, intellectual property, communication support services and franchise business, working with incubators operating in the Kingdom and the incubator of information and communication, coordination with the concerned authorities, establish a partnership with the regional centers and international organizations that can help in providing new business ideas for small and medium enterprises.
The Committee members expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of facilitating the procedures for small and medium enterprises and overcome all obstacles to their work and productivity, in addition to the support provided to them either directly or indirectly through institutions, technical support , and praised the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and which fall within their strategies and orientations based mainly on the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 , which contributed significantly to raising the level of services provided to citizens and beneficiaries of these services in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
