The global publishing, research and consultancy firm Oxford Business Group (OBG) has appointed Cate McCabe as its new Country Director for Oman.

McCabe moves into her new post from Qatar where she worked on OBG’s most recent report on the country’s economy. She has also contributed to the Group’s Southeast Asia operations, taking on the role of project manager in the Philippines.

Before joining OBG, McCabe worked as a communications manager for an NGO in India and has also held the post of policy and communications executive at the Chamber of Commerce (Ireland).

In her new role McCabe, who has a Masters in Economic and Public Affairs from University College Dublin, will form part of the management team tasked with producing The Report: Oman 2015, OBG’s forthcoming economic analysis on the Sultanate of Oman.

McCabe said she looked forward to building on OBG’s operations in Oman, which reached a milestone this year with the launch of the company’s tenth-anniversary publication.

“Oxford Business Group’s reporting on the Omani economy has benefited from longstanding relationships fostered over the years with the country’s institutions and companies,” she said. “I feel privileged to be meeting the people who are playing a part in the Sultanate’s development and will work to ensure that The Report: Oman 2015 provides a useful platform for dialogue between businesses, the authorities and investors.”

OBG’s Regional Director, Jana Treeck, added that the Group have witnessed significant changes during its decade-long spell in the Sultanate, led by a national drive to increase the role of the private sector and create a more business-friendly climate.

“Oman has used its rising hydrocarbons revenues to roll out several major initiatives, including support for SMEs, infrastructure projects and investment in education and training, aimed at diversifying the Sultanate’s economy,” she said. “While challenges remain, our reports over the years indicate just how much progress Oman has made in generating new growth. I’m sure Cate will play an important role in helping us to document the next phase of the Sultanate’s development and relaying those changes to investors, as the country’s economic roadmap, Oman Vision 2020, gains momentum.”
