35% rise in skincare sales in July, against monthly average in H1 of 2014
A regional expert has revealed that there has been a 35% increase in sales of skincare products in July, compared to the average monthly increase in the first half of 2014.
The Managing Director of Al Hikma company, Dr Ali. F. Abdulqader, attributed this increase to high demand triggered by the extreme summer heat and humidity.
Dubai-based Al Hikma, specializing in marketing premium skincare solutions and health products, reports that the skincare segment, along with cosmetics, figures on top of women’s priority list in the Gulf region, due to heightened awareness of the long-term benefits of using such products.
Dr. Abdulqader, said, “Organic and natural products enjoy a higher preference among Gulf customers, due to higher spending power in this part of the world, which enables them to move away from chemical skincare solutions.” Dr. Abdulqader added, “UAE customers understand the importance of putting quality over price, and this contributes to the growth of this sector. Moreover, we see demand growing with the increasing population in the Gulf region, with expatriate consumers displaying a culture of high consumption as far as skincare products are concerned.”
According to statistics released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the population of the GCC region is expected to reach 53 million by 2020, 25% of whom will be under the age of 15.
Ratiba Ayad, Brand Manager, Al Hikma, says her company handles the distribution of productions of Vinoderm, which are based in Pinot Noir, where high-quality red grape grow at the canton of Valais, at the foot of the Swiss Alps. She added that specific combinations of ingredients give Vinoderm products exclusive properties and structure, and are particularly suitable for summer.
“We have operations across all over the UAE. In recent times, we have seen higher demand for organic products both at wholesale and retail levels. There is considerable interest from major skincare products providers in Europe to promote their presence in the Gulf region, particularly those who made products from natural ingredients,” she added.
