AAW donates KD100,000 to help treat lymphoma cancer patients in Kuwait
Ali Abdulwahab Al Mutawa Commercial Co. (AAW), one of Kuwait’s leading medical distribution companies and the main distributor of Roche Pharmaceuticals in Kuwait, announced a donation of over KD100,000 of the cancer-fighting medicine “MabThera” to the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO).
The Kuwait-based charity IICO will be distributing the medicine to 100 non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) cancer patients in Kuwait who cannot afford the medicine.
AAW Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Faisal Al. Al Mutawa, said, “There is a consensus among experts that Kuwait is facing specific health challenges and steep rise in cancer patients. At AAW, we believe that we have a moral and social responsibility to help patients who cannot afford treatment and often work with local non-profit organizations to ensure the efficient delivery of our donated medicines, and to make sure they reach the right people.”
According to the World Cancer Factsheet by The World Health Organization, non-Hodgkin lymphoma is the most prevalent cancer for males in Kuwait and one of the top five cancer deaths among both men and women in Kuwait. The World Health Organization attributed 12.7% of deaths in Kuwait to cancer and the organization project the percentage will grow to 17.2% by the year 2030.
AAW was awarded last month for this generous contribution in a ceremony under the patronage of HE the Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi and in the attendance of Mr. Mohammad Al-Otaibi and Sheikh Fahad Al Jaber Al Sabah.
As part of AAW’s ongoing effort to help cancer patients in Kuwait, the company through its Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Faisal Ali Abdulwahab Al Mutawa, made a long-standing donation to Hayatt Breast Cancer Foundation by providing the non-profit organization with offices in Shuwaikh.
AAW also has an on-going commitment in corporate social responsibility in more than half a dozen fields. In the last 10 years, AAW has contributed yearly to NGOs similar to International Islamic Charity Organization which also include Cancer Awareness Nation (CAN), the Human Rights Watch, and the Women’s Social and Cultural Society for causes like human rights, helping children with terminal illnesses, and aid to Syrian families.
