Abu Dhabi internship programmes tee up double opportunities
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Abu Dhabi Golf Club have teed off the first of a two-phase competitive internship programme for 2014.
The first batch of five talented interns has joined the Troon Golf-managed courses from Birmingham University in the United Kingdom where they are studying for their PGA degrees.
A second batch of students from the UK will join the two clubs in September to undertake a nine month internship. During this time, they will gain invaluable experience working at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which is celebrating its 10 year anniversary, in January 2015.
The internship programmes aim to help further young people’s career prospects, whilst providing invaluable experience and potential opportunities with Troon Golf, which is internationally recognised as the world’s leading golf course management company. Demonstrating what opportunities the internship programme can provide, Abu Dhabi Golf Club has offered a full-time position as Assistant Golf Professional to Josh Taylor who was a 2013 intern. Following nine months at the club, the 22-year-old clinched the position with a successful interview and impressive presentation on Troon Golf.
Phil Waine, Golf Operations Manager at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, said, “Year on year we are impressed by these students’ outstanding talent, initiative, passion and work ethic. We are delighted to provide them with international experience at a world class facility that can lead to fantastic opportunities, such as Josh’s full-time position at the club. Troon Golf is focused on growing talent, regionally and internationally. As golf in the region grows, with world-class facilities and events, we are witnessing an increasing interest and demand for jobs in Abu Dhabi.”
Kyle Copper, Jack Bramford and Bradley Barnes join the golf operations team at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, whilst Harry Cloke and Jordan Howlett join Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Their roles involve taking care of members and guests and assisting in the retail operation.
Franco Botha, PGA Golf Professional at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, added, “The intern program allows young aspiring Golf Professionals to gain experience on how Troon Golf manages world-class 5-Star Facilities, while maintaining focus on how to better the experience. This is a great opportunity for them to gain insight into Troon Golf’s global vision.”
Jack Bamford, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club intern, said, “I am gaining invaluable experience in a new environment and enjoying the opportunity to see how big facilities are managed by Troon Golf on a daily basis.”
