Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre celebrates 1st anniversary with charity event in support of Pink Caravan
Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre organized a charity event last Wednesday in celebration of its 1st year anniversary and in support of the 4th horseback ride of the Pink Caravan Breast Cancer awareness campaign.
The celebration was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC.
Titled “Tea, with a dollop of Hope”, the charity event was attended by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah and Sheikha Asmaa bint Saqr Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.
Present in the event were also Wife of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qassimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikha Khawla bint Khalid Al Nahyan in addition to over 200 distinguished women from business and social communities and representatives from a number of Government and private entities in the UAE.
Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, said, “Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre was established to meet the needs of the emirate of Sharjah for a state-of-the-art and fully equipped hall that provides an event venue for individuals and corporations.” She added, “Such a venue will help Sharjah host high profile events. She praised the organization of the charity auction in support of the Pink Caravan as part of the JRCC’s first anniversary celebration.”
Sheikha Jawaher praised the results achieved by Pink Caravan through provisions of free testing for early breast cancer detection and the launch of the yearly breast cancer awareness campaign as part of the comprehensive efforts to spread awareness about breast cancer and to provide financial and moral support to patients across UAE.
The event began with a speech by Hanan Al Mahmoud, the Director of JRCC. In her speech Al Mahmoud expressed her joy about the success achieved by JRCC during its first year whereby 150 events and celebrations were held. She affirmed that holding the charitable auction event in support of the Pink Caravan stems from their CSR towards the national Institutions and in support of humanitarian programs. The event also showed a documentary film that highlighted Pink Caravan’s achievements and milestones since its inception in 2011. The campaign has provided free early detection tests to over 23,000 women and men in the last three years, spread awareness and helped dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding breast cancer.
During the ceremony, Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was announced as the new Ambassador of the 4th Pink Caravan campaign, in recognition of her outstanding efforts in supporting the initiative and in support of the UAE women engaged in humanitarian causes. Sheikha Hissa has been active in sport competitions and is a role model for young Emirati girls. In her speech on the occasion, Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan expressed her joy at joining the Pink Caravan as an ambassador. She said that the Pink Caravan has saved lives of thousands, turned breast cancer into a problem that people can live with and attracted the attention of the World Health Organization as an innovative awareness campaign.
Sheikha Hissa extended thanks to the Pink Caravan teams, including the riders and ambassadors, for their contribution to spreading awareness. She added that the upcoming ride will see much more success as the initiative is targeting 5,000 screenings, adding that the ambassadors will be accompanying the 2014 ride.
The announcement of the new ambassador was followed by a documentary film about Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre. A trunk show of the Spring/Summer 2014 Collection by Ralph Lauren was staged followed by a charity auction for a limited edition item (Hot Pink Alligator Skin Rikki Bag), which was sold at AED200,000. Proceeds from the auction have been forwarded to the Pink Caravan to support their efforts to buy and operate an early breast cancer detection unit.
Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre was inaugurated by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah, in mid-February 2013. Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre (JRCC), is an affiliate of Sharjah Ladies Club, founded with the vision of providing an all-year impeccable venue for social and corporate events. The hall is situated opposite Sharjah International Airport on an area of approximately 5,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 3,000 guests and up to 2,400 in round table seating arrangement. The hall can be divided into three smaller halls of 700-1500 guest range, with an optimum soundproof system so it can accommodate different functions at the same time.
