“Building Community and Youth Initiatives” workshop discusses ways to activate youth involvement in community development
A youth workshop organized by the Secretariat General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf – entitled “Building Community and Youth Initiatives” – will commence in the Kingdom of Bahrain, at the Diplomat Radisson Blu. The workshop has been organised under the patronage and in the presence of HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS), and HE Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The two-day session will discuss three main topics: means to activate youth involvement in community development, how to develop their related skills, and how to encourage positive youth initiatives. The workshop will also discuss current youth initiatives in community building and development and the necessity of supporting them.
The sessions will address the extent of youth involvement in community development in the GCC countries and the challenges faced therein. They will highlight the close relations between universities and the community, and how far these relations have contributed to boosting involvement in community development – exploring how to link the mechanisms that aim to encourage meaningful youth initiatives and direct these mechanisms to improve their efficacy.
Participants will be introduced to the best methods to build and develop the necessary skills that help young men expand their social involvement. They will learn about best models, practices and initiatives – both national and international.
The workshop is the third in a series of workshops being held by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States in the member states, following a decision made by the GCC Supreme Council, during its 34th summit in Kuwait in December 2013, which affirmed the necessity of nurturing and developing young people by organizing development workshops on regular basis.
The GCC-SG seeks through this workshop to encourage youths to participate in community development. It aims to develop the necessary youth skills and encourage positive initiatives to support the ways in which young people can be actively involved in community development.
