Carnegie Mellon celebrates diverse student body at International Day
The Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar student community represents over 40 countries around the world. In recognition of this rich diversity, the university’s annual International Day brought together the global student community for an evening of celebrations. The event held at the Carnegie Mellon Qatar campus featured dance, talent shows and food from different cultures.
Sanjeet Sahni a freshman business administration student and member of the organizing committee commented on the value of the event, which enhances cultural awareness amongst the student community: “Events like this are really important as they strengthen our tightknit CMU-Q community. International Day provides a platform to welcome and celebrate the cultures represented by our vibrant student body and gives us the opportunity to express our individual identities.”
In an effort to provide students with an international perspective and global awareness, the university hosts a variety of cultural offerings throughout the academic year, including Global Bash, Qatari Day, the Tartan Carnival and yearly exchange programs between students in Qatar and the United States.
