Construction of Oman’s first sugar refinery to be completed in 18 months

Oman Sugar Refinery Co (OSRC) has said construction of the sultanate’s first sugar refinery at the Port of Sohar is expected to commence by the third quarter of this year, Times of Oman has reported. The plant will have an envisaged capacity of 700,000 tonnes in the first phase, which will be increased to one million tonnes in the second phase. “It will take 18 months to build a complete new refinery,” said Andre Toet, chief executive officer of Sohar Industrial Port Co.
