DM holds digital photography contest
The marine environment and wildlife section of environment department at Dubai Municipality has announced the digital photography contest for employees and public on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day 2014.
Aisha Almurr Al Muhery, senior education and awareness officer at environment awareness section, said, “The contest is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of migratory birds and its protection in the environment and it is open to both amateur and professional photographers.”
“All pictures should be taken in the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Hides during official visit timing from Saturday to Thursday, 9am – 4pm. Photos must have been taken between April 06-30, 2014, and should not have won nor have been published in any manner of form,” Al Muhery said. “Participants may use any digital or film-based camera. Entries must be printed in full colour on any brand of photo paper in 8R size (8 inches x 10 inches). Manually retouched and/or painted over print outputs, and any form of major manipulation of the main image are not allowed, although digital retouching on density, contrast adjustments, minor cropping, burning, and dodging may be tolerated. Creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure e.g. multiple exposures, flash fill, lighting, filtration, etc. are allowed,” she said.
A photographer maximum five entries. Cash prizes will be given by Dubai Municipality for winners. First Prize will be Dhs2,500 , second prize 2,000 and third prize 1,500. Each entry should be submitted through a CD and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Each photograph will be given an entry number. The name of the photographer should not appear on the face of the entry.
Entries can be submitted to Ms. Hadeya Abbas Kaidi, Awareness Section, Environment Department, 6th floor, Dubai Municipality Main Office, old building, Deira, Dubai, Tel. No. 04 2063783. Deadline for submission of entries is on April 30, 2014 at 2.30 p.m. Submitted and winning entries become the property of Environment Department, Dubai Municipality, which will have the right to reproduce, exhibit, or publish the images for promotional purposes, indicating and acknowledging the photographer when possible.
Winners will be announced during the World Migratory Bird Day 2014 seminar at the Falcon Heritage Center on May 12, 2014. The seminar will be from 9am-12pm. All participants are encouraged to attend.
Entries will be displayed at the RAKWS Hides from May 4-8, 2014 and at the Falcon Heritage Center, Nad Al Sheba on May 12, 2014.
