Emirates Global Aluminium PJSC (“EGA”) – the UAE aluminium conglomerate into which Emirates Aluminium PJSC (“EMAL”) and Dubai Aluminium PJSC (“DUBAL”) have been integrated – has reaffirmed its commitment to providing employment opportunities for Emiratis across its business at this year’s Careers UAE exhibition. Over the three days of the event, EGA received 1,380 applications from UAE Nationals looking to join the industrial flagship.

EGA’s strong presence at the annual event continued the local aluminium industry’s long-standing participation at Careers UAE, which began at the inaugural exhibition in 2001. Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai) the exhibition is now a key part of the UAE government’s 7-year National Agenda to promote employment in the UAE in the lead-up to World Expo 2020.

Elham Al Qasim (Executive Vice President, Human Capital at EGA) confirmed the company’s on-going efforts to boost the number of UAE Nationals employed across its operations (currently 65 per cent of senior management and 19 per cent of the total EGA workforce are Emirati). She said EGA had more than 300 positions available for UAE Nationals across its operations and maintenance divisions alone, with various programmes and initiatives in place to increase the skills levels of Emiratis across the organisation.

“At EGA, we are proud of the role we play in supporting the diversification of the UAE economy. A highly-qualified and skilled Emirati workforce is essential for our future success, and we will continue to provide a variety of career opportunities to potential employees. Ensuring rewarding career and development opportunities for our people is enshrined in our core values. Therefore, we work incredibly hard to ensure that our employees get the right support to advance their careers in a way that meets their aspirations and those of the business,” she said.

At Careers UAE 2014, EGA highlighted its range of training programmes and opportunities, which target engineering graduates, high school science graduates and holders of technical certificates from Institute of Applied Technology. These programmes include training and career development programmes for UAE Nationals (including pre-employment courses in several disciplines), a work placement programme for tertiary students, a comprehensive graduate training programme, a scholarship scheme and a development pool that aids career growth and succession planning.
