Lexicon brings US experts to train parents and teachers for kids with learning difficulties in UAE
Lexicon Reading Center, UAE’s premier institute focused on supporting children with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and other learning difficulties, has roped in two global experts from the United States, Annette Clark and Betty Bidwell, to conduct a free workshop for parents and teachers in the UAE.
This workshop introduces a research based comprehensive remedial program for students with reading and writing difficulties. The program is authored by Dr. Jane Fell Greene, a pioneer at the forefront of the literacy movement in USA for 25 years.
Both Betty and Annette are certified trainers of the program and this free workshop will be held at Casselles Hotel, Al Barsha, Dubai on August 24th. The workshop is for parents and teachers of students with literacy challenges in both primary (elementary) and secondary schools.
“Training teachers and parents of children with learning challenges form an essential part of remedial therapies, together with a thorough assessment of the causes of the difficulties and the development of an individualized scientifically based intervention program. The workshop conducted by the two renowned experts presents an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to gain an insight into th nature of this intervention, thus enabling them to become an important contributor to the child’s successful mastery of their challenges,” said Rudolf Stockling MSc (Psych), Clinical Director, Lexicon Reading Center.
Annette Clark and Betty Bidwell, educational consultants at Bidwell & Clark Inc., USA, will be conducting the workshop in collaboration with Lexicon Reading Center. Their skills and expertise covers teaching, curriculum design and educational administration as well as extensive experience assisting children with learning disabilities. Annette Clark has over 20 years of teaching experience, specializing in bilingual and cross-cultural education. Betty Bidwell has been involved in education for more than 30 years, having worked as a teacher, trainer of teachers, educational leader and policy maker.
“We are delighted to have been able to engage these two experts with their wide reaching experience. Lexicon Reading Center is committed to foster a strong family involvement in our quest to achieve optimal success for children with learning challenges. Evidence based programs that are grounded in the most advanced scientific knowledge about the nature of learning challenges are at the core of our interventions. Our goal is to educate parents and the general public that children with learning challenges can compete at an equal level with their peers, provided that their challenges are addressed through appropriate individualized interventions. Lexicon’s workshops have enabled parents and teachers to better support these children to become more confident and achieve success at school,” added Rudolf.
Lexicon has conducted many workshops involving international experts. In March, 2013, Lexicon Reading Center in association with Tony Buzan, a world renowned expert on thinking processes, conducted a workshop on Mind Mapping for Students with Dyslexia. The workshop helped these students and their parents to learn efficient techniques to cope with their studies appropriate for their unique learning style.
