Muscat Grand Mall – Muscat’s Event Hub
Muscat Grand Mall (MGM), the Sultanate’s most popular shopping and entertainment destination, in collaboration with the US Embassy and as part of its ‘Outreach Program’, recently organised a special evening of entertainment for Mall visitors.
The successful event, which included entertaining performances by America’s defacto Bluegrass Ambassadors – the Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band as well as world famous puppeteer Karen Konnerth, marked the beginning of a season of entertainment at Muscat Grand Mall with numerous shows and campaigns to be hosted over the next four months.
The exciting evening proved to be a thoroughly memorable one, especially for Bluegrass music lovers at the mall. As part of the event Bob Perilla’s world famous Big Hillbilly Bluegrass band gave a rocking performance at the mall as they sang, played and gave the audience a great evening. Also included as part of the show was a special performance by Karen Konnerth, the founder of Calliope Puppets.Written, designed and performed by Karen herself, the show proved to be a tremendous success with both children and adults alike as she invited the family audiences on a fascinating journey; exploring folklore, culture, and fantasy in order to bring imagination to learning.
Commenting on the activities that took place at the mall, Hassan Jaboub, the General Manager of Muscat Grand Mall said, “As one of Oman’s youngest shopping destination, cultural diversity has always been a core value behind the operations at Muscat Grand Mall. As such we are always looking to partner with, and support events which are unique to the Sultanate and appeal to both broad as well as niche audiences. Both shows organised by the embassywere extremely successful, drawing in huge crowds from across the capital. I am confident we will get a similar response for each of our shows and awareness campaigns that are to follow over the next four months.”
In the upcoming months, starting with September, Muscat Grand Mall will be hosting a large number of events; the first of which will be an amazing animatronic Dino Show. This is to be followed by an Handicrafts Exhibition by PACI, the third Injaz Student Projects exhibition, an environment awareness campaign by the Environment Association/ESO, and the third ever drugs awareness campaign by the ROP. Also in September, MGM is to play host to the first official alumni gathering for the GCC area for the University of South Carolina Alumni Club.
In the following month a joint cancer awareness campaign will be organized by the Oman Cancer Association and MGM for the second time. In November, MGM, in collaboration with the Lawyer’s Association, will once again be collecting donationsfor those who are in prisondue to unpaid debts. In addition, they will also be showcasing some intriguing cases that have taken place in recent years. Soon after, National Day celebrations will be hosted at the mall in collaboration with the ROP. The last of the events to take place in November will be an awareness exhibition on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings; a sobering reminder of the horrors of nuclear war and a testament to the bravery of humankind.
December marks the return of the Mall’s winter theme as well as the return of the Art Exhibition by Prisoner, hosted by the ROP. This intriguing Exhibition will include the sale of various paintings and art works produced by prisoners in the Sultanate.
“It is great to see so many organisations and associations returning to MGM to host their events. Each of them were extremely pleased with the prime location of MGM and the space it provided them. It is our pleasure and privilege to host them once again and I am confident they will get a similar, if not a larger, audience this year,” added Hassan Jaboub.
