Nissan Triathlon Festival debuts at Atlantis Resort
The fast growing sport of triathlon is heading to the stunning Atlantis Resort on April 5th with a series of events aimed to give the whole family a chance to get fit. Partakers will be able to compete in the first event of its kind, which will be held on The Palm, Jumeirah.
Sponsored by Nissan and Arabian Automobiles, organised by RACE ME (Tri Race Events Management) and endorsed by Nakheel and the Dubai Sports Council, events range from fun runs for kids aged seven to eleven, sprint and Olympic distance aquathons (swim/run) as well as team and individual triathlons (swim/bike/run). The event will be rounded off with an Athlete’s Village with entertainment and bouncy castles for the kids.
“We want to create an annual multi-discipline event that encourages the whole family to get fit and get active,” commented Paul Venn, Race Director. “To be able to secure a sponsor like Nissan and Arabian Automobiles shows the popularity of the sport in the UAE and the desire of brands to engage with their consumers at a real grass roots level.”
“”We encourage and support healthy initiatives that unite the community and bring people closer together. We admire the efforts put in organizing the event by RACE ME, and we are keen on being involved; as we hope to continue to promote events with good causes in the future,” said Salah Yamout, Director – Sales & Marketing, Arabian Automobiles.
The entire event takes place on The Palm, Jumeirah with competitors swimming in the calm waters off the Atlantis beach before cycling a 20km loop along the crescent to the One & Only Resort, then passing through the tunnel in both directions and back to the Aquaventure car park. The 5km run loop see athletes run the other direction along the crescent past the Sofitel hotel before turning with the Burj Al Arab forming the backdrop of the run back to the start/finish area.
In addition to Nissan and Arabian Automobiles, the event is sponsored by Adventure HQ, and Wolfi’s Bike Shop. Mondial Dubai are also supporting with a separate race category aimed at airline industry professionals.
Registration can be done online at http://www.race-me-events.com/atlantis-triathlon-festival-5april14 with participants able to register until midnight on March 31st. With more than 400 people already signed up, the organisers are confident that they will attract more than 500 competitors.
“Events generally fill up late here in the UAE so having more than 400 people signed up with 1 week still to register is a very good sign,” added Venn. “The event really does offer something for everyone and what matters is participation. We want people to get outdoors and incorporate physical activity into their lives regardless of their age.”
