OPEX committee gears up for Omani products exhibition in Dubai
Preparations for the third Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX), scheduled to be held at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre from 14-16 September, are well underway with 58 local companies already confirming participation.
Organized by Ithraa, Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI), OPEX 2014 is slated to become the largest of the three editions to date. A diverse range of Omani goods are expected to be on show from food and beverages, textiles and garments, minerals and metals, equipment and machinery, and furniture, as well as paper, plastic, nonmetallic, petrochemical, chemical, fabricated metal and recycled products.
“The past two OPEX events in Saudi Arabia and Qatar have proven to be an incredible success with more than 75% of exhibitors securing new deals with importers. The exhibition has become a staple in our events calendar and is proving instrumental in realizing our strategy of increasing the contribution of non-oil products to Oman’s economy and enhancing the visibility of Oman-made products,” said Nasima Al-Balushi, Ithraa’s Director General of Export Development.
“Dubai is the region’s main business hub and a gateway to international trade. This represents a perfect opportunity to expand into a very strong global market. OPEX aims to develop partnerships between local companies and importers in the UAE for Omani non-oil products including building materials, leather, food, pharmaceutical and polypropylene products, as well as for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to establish new trade agreements with companies in the UAE.”
The United Arab Emirates is Oman’s principal trading partner, up by nearly 20% from OMR 550 million in 2012 to OMR 658 million of non-oil trade in 2013. The increase in trade between the two nations shows the enhanced competitiveness of high quality Omani products and the potential for further private sector growth.
Interested companies are encouraged to register by contacting Ithraa’s Export Development Department before the end of July.
