QAPCO launches Summer Internship program
Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C., one of the leading petrochemical powerhouses in the region and a pioneer in petrochemical production launched its much-anticipated 2014 Summer Internship program and welcomed its 70 enthusiastic summer interns.
On the occasion of the kick-start of the QAPCO Summer Internship Program 2014, Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, QAPCO’s Vice Chairman & CEO stated, “The QAPCO Internship Program is a pathway to a successful career in the industry and I believe that all aspiring Engineers should, at some stage of their education, experience the thrill of working in an industrial plant and witness for themselves the processes, applications and technology that they study in academia.”
The 70 highly motivated students from local and international universities will join the Petrochemical company for an 8-week intensive training program during which they will gain unparalleled exposure and significant industry knowledge. QAPCO strongly believes in nurturing today the talent of the future and places particular emphasis on the continuous coaching of its summer interns, as they will evolve along QAPCO senior employees and professional education experts for several weeks.
As the petrochemical industry is booming in the Middle East and in some regions around the world, demand for internships in QAPCO have never been stronger. Indeed, QAPCO’s Summer Internship program is highly popular amongst both male and female students and the company received a large number of applications from candidates in Qatar and abroad, which reaffirms the preeminent position and reputation of the Qatari downstream sector on the global scene. As such, the Qatari petrochemical sector is well-known for its technical know-how and high level of expertize, and is notorious for the support extended to aspiring talented engineers. QAPCO offers unique and stimulating summer internship positions focusing in particular on scientific disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering.
The program began on June 24th with a three-day Induction course designed to introduce the students to QAPCO and included Health & Safety training, orientation of the Plant and the issuing of Personal Protective Equipment. It also included a workshop on Time Management to assist the students with their upcoming working schedule for the next two months. The Program is unique in Qatar as it also provides an array of innovative workshops delivered each Thursday to all students. The topics of these workshops include Leadership skills, Team Building, and Motivation as well as a workshop outlining the fundamentals of research and development that are essential to shape QAPCO’s sustainable future.
Eng. Abdulla Ahmad Naji, QAPCO’s Learning & Development Manager stated, “I am pleased to once again open the doors of QAPCO to allow undergraduate students to experience what they have learned in University and develop further the theories and models they have studied. This part of their development is vital as they will acquire firsthand knowledge of the Petrochemical industry and will be trained by Subject Matter Experts who have more than 20 years experience of working in Industry. This type of learning cannot be achieved in classrooms or lecture halls and will be of great benefit to all the students. It may also encourage some of the Engineering students to join the new QAPCO Apprenticeship Program once they have completed their degree.”
