QAPCO and Qatofin employees and their families to unite in attempt to break world record for National Sports Day
Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), the leading regional petrochemical powerhouse, and its sister company Qatofin plan on becoming ‘Officially Amazing’ on the occasion of the National Sports Day.
As the third edition of the National Sports Day approaches, QAPCO and Qatofin employees and their families are gearing up to officially attempt to break a world record and make history.
Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry, Chairman & Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum, on the 11th of February 2014, QAPCO and Qatofin will attempt to break the World Guinness Record for the most consecutive football passes. The current consecutive passes World Record was set in Hong Kong on the 4th of May 2002. The event lasted four and a half hours. The record was set 12 years ago and hasn’t been beaten ever since.
QAPCO and Qatofin are ready for the challenge. The event will take place on the football field of the QAPCO Club in Mesaieed. Employees and their children will participate in this one-of-a-kind competition.
The target is definitely ambitious, as each pass needs to reach the symbolic mark. The participants will be able to express their passion for football and showcase their skills and technique on the field. Officials from World Guinness Record will monitor the entire event.
Commenting on the upcoming attempt, Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, Vice Chairman and CEO of QAPCO and Qatofin, said, “As QAPCO and Qatofin, we will be extremely proud if we break the record and bring the World Guinness title to Qatar. We know it is not going to be easy but a challenge increases our motivation. Our goal is to encourage the passion for sports across generations, especially football, and promote active lifestyles. We aim to demonstrate that sport is fun and that collective performance matters. Together, we can achieve the impossible; we can reach new heights and make history. We are all united to make this groundbreaking performance a reality. And team spirit is the name of our game.”
QAPCO counts many amateur football players and the QAPCO football competitions are the highlight of the sports season. Driven by its passion for football and looking up to 2022, QAPCO is actively engaged in supporting a number of football related activities and competitions. Therefore, the World Record attempt is a perfect match for QAPCO and aligned with its corporate focus. Earlier in 2011, QAPCO and Qatofin broke together their first Guinness Record with the World’s largest football shirt. The World Record attempt is one of the many fun-filled activities that are lined up for the National Sports Day at the QAPCO Club. The objective is to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage the daily practice of sports.
Over 4,000 participants, employees and their families, will take part in various sport activities. A particular attention will be given to the children, with a kid’s fun-zone and dedicated sport competitions, to encourage their love for sports and to make sure it becomes an integral part of their daily life.
Commenting on the activities of the day and on QAPCO’s focus on sports, Dr. Al Mulla, mentioned, “Aligned with the principles of the Qatar National Vision 2030, we believe sports will support a sustainable future for generations to come by shaping a fitter nation and a healthier tomorrow. The National Sports Day is an excellent opportunity to promote the regular practice of sports amongst our employees and to encourage them to do the same with their children.”
QAPCO’s Women Committee is also organizing sport competitions exclusively dedicated to the ladies. In its fitness drive, the QAPCO Club will serve healthy food and snacks all day. QAPCO HSE and Medical teams will be on site, offering their support and ensuring a safe and successful sport day for all.
