Royal Bahrain Hospital -RBH conducts an awareness lecture on “Fatty Liver disease” for The Ritz Carlton Staff
Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH) has conducted an awareness lecture for the Ritz Carlton staff entitled “Fatty Liver Disease” as part of its responsibility toward educating the society and raising the awareness of the common diseases and illnesses. The lecture took place in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Manama, recently.
Dr. Mustafa Al Abdullah, Consultant Gastroenterologist in RBH, oversaw the lecture to the Ritz Carlton employees. He addressed many factors that may cause the “Fatty liver Disease”, and highlighted several ways to manage and to prevent it, mainly by following a nutritious and healthy life style. In addition, he highlighted on the importance of exercising at least 4 times a week, in which it is beneficial to all of our body organs.
“Fatty liver is quite common. It can become harmful to the liver if the cause is not recognized and treated. The most common cause is alcoholism. Other causes are toxins, certain drugs, and inherited metabolic disorders. It also has been associated with high blood cholesterol, obesity, and type 2 diabetes,” he said.
“Treatment focuses on the factors that may cause the disease of alcoholism treatment, cholesterol management, weight loss and blood sugar control,” he added.
Worth to note, that the liver is the second largest organ in the body. The liver’s function is to process everything we eat or drink and filter any harmful substances from the blood. If too much fat has accumulated in the liver then this process is interfered with. The liver commonly repairs itself by rebuilding new liver cells when the old ones are damaged. When there is repeated damage to the liver, permanent scarring takes place.
