The Omani manpower minister has extended by six months a ban on employing expat construction workers and housekeeping staff in the country’s private sector, Times of Oman has reported. This extension follows a review of the local market and was based on recommendations from the Committee of Sectoral and Contractors Association, which appealed to the concerned ministries to regulate the labour market further, said a ministry official. Exceptions to the ban will include excellent, first grade, consultancy establishments, as well as companies working on government projects, companies that are managed full time by their Omani owners, who are registered with the Public Authority for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (PADSME) and insured with the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI), said the report.
