Sony, Panasonic to develop new professional storage standard

Japanese electronics giant Sony has announced it is working with Panasonic on a new ‘Archival Disc’ standard that is aimed at the professional data storage market. Both companies aim to launch systems with a recording capacity of 300GB per disc from the summer of 2015, onwards, said Sony. In addition, both companies plan to leverage their respective technologies to further expand the recording capacity per disc to 500GB and 1TB, the firm added.
