The IT, Telecom and Technology Show-COMEX 2014 commenced, 7th April 2014 and will continue till 11th April 2014 under the patronage of e.oman and organized by OITE Trade Fairs. Under the theme eTransformation, the exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri, Chairman of the State Council, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.
In its 24th edition, the expo aims to showcase the latest local and international technologies in the ICT field, empower SMEs through ICT, and encourage society to use information technology. It also sheds light on new solutions, projects and initiatives adopted by some government institutions and private companies in the ICT field. The 5-day exhibition is divided into three main pavilions; eGovernment services, COMEX business, and COMEX shopper. Several government and private institutions are participating in this year’s exhibition; including international participation from UAE, Singapore, Estonia, Lithuania, Kuwait, and Jordan.
On the occasion of the inauguration of COMEX2014, Dr. Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, says: “COMEX has its unique importance that makes him the most prominent platform for the government institutions meeting and networking with the private sector under one roof to bring out a valuable cooperation in the eGovernment field”. About the activities of COMEX 2014, Al Ruzaiqi added: “A number of signing agreements and meetings with the participating delegations will be during the exhibition, in addition to the launch of a number of new services and applications in some government and private institutions. We encourage everyone to visit the exhibition and take advantage of the presence of 36 government institutions seeking to offer services that will facilitate our daily dealings in various areas of health, education, social and others.”
The COMEX inauguration was very successful, as seen by the number of attendees, the government support being especially commendable. The string of VIPs coming in from different industries gives you a very positive feeling and supports the idea of COMEX, stressing that there is a need for such an event, the quality of which refers to the attention given to it by the government. As an exhibition organizer I find all the elements of success present, presenting a positive forecast for the future of this event, come later years. COMEX can be put on par with international IT events, we see key companies like Microsoft, Cisco and Nokia all of whom have invested in their stands which gives you the trust factor that we as organizers can continue to do better to attract more international participants to COMEX. The exhibition has had a very successful kickoff and we look forward to the next four days to increase visitor participation at COMEX ” says Mr. Tarek Ali, General Manager-Exhibitions-OITE.
36 government entities are present in the eGovernment services section to emphasize the latest initiatives that promote eTransformation in Oman, alongside the participation of some international government institutions from Kuwait, UAE, Jordan, Singapore, Lithuania, and Estonia. The pavilion gives companies and individuals a chance to meet with various government representatives, while at the same time allowing these government institutions to gain valuable feedback from the public. The Information Technology Authority (ITA) is also participating with its projects and initiatives in this section to highlight some e.oman projects including: the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment, Oman’s National CERT, ePayment Gateway, Sas Programme, Omanuna, the Free & Open Source Software initiative, the Green Initiative, the National PC Initiative, and ICT SMEs Development Program.
