Etisalat, the UAE’s leading telecom provider, will offer 100 career opportunities in engineering, sales and enterprise at Tawdheef Abu Dhabi 2014, a career fair tailored exclusively for UAE National job-seekers.
Taking place from 3-5 February 2014 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the employment platform will host more than 120 public and private organisations keen to recruit the UAE’s brightest local talent. Now in its eighth year, Tawdheef will provide an opportunity for companies such as Etisalat to engage with local job seekers at all levels.
Younis Abdulaziz Al Nimr, Chief Human Resources Officer, Etisalat UAE, said: “Etisalat is committed to nurturing and developing national talent and we are happy to be part of Tawdheef as it is one of the main sources to recruit talented locals. We are keen to meet ambitious Emiratis who want to be part of an organisation where they can make a real difference and we aim to give them a better understanding of how we recruit for available positions.
“We invite all attendees to visit our stand at the exhibition to learn more about our exciting career opportunities.”
Etisalat’s local recruitment strategy is modelled on a pyramid structure whereby UAE nationals are recruited in every department, thus providing local talent to all sectors of the industry. To support this, the telecom major offers several programmes, which target university graduates, diploma holders and high school graduates.
These include the Intermediate Management Development Programme, which is aimed at supervisors and managers, and a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, which provides an introduction to a career in HR. In addition, Etisalat offers a programme in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as courses in e-learning, which provide training via the internet.
Etisalat is also committed to the Abshar initiative, which aims to boost the number of Emiratis entering the workforce. On the technical side, the telecom provider has created programmes for university and Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) graduates, which have helped Etisalat increase its number of Emirati technicians by 35%, representing a total of 900 employees. Etisalat’s Future Leaders programme, meanwhile, is designed to sharpen leadership skills and 158 Emirati students recently graduated from the scheme.
The total number of UAE nationals, currently employed at Etisalat has exceeded 2500 staff, which accounts for 43% of the workforce. Of these local employees, 51 are in mid management positions and 80% are in top management positions.
In line with its Emiratisation objectives, the company has set a target to increase the percentage of its UAE National workforce to 45% by 2015.
