Lebanon sets rules for ‘vanity’ numbers

Lebanese telecoms ministry has introduced new regulations governing the sale and auctioning of “vanity numbers” by the country’s two mobile phone operators, Alfa and touch, The Daily Star has reported. According to the new rules, the auctioning of “Platinum” numbers would require the approval of the ministry, while the sale of numbers in the “Diamond, Golden, Silver and Bronze” categories would be restricted to two per individual. Diamond, Golden, Silver and Bronze numbers were priced respectively at $5,000, $800, $400 and $150, excluding the value added tax. Regular numbers in ‘Category A’ will be sold at $100, while post-paid and pre-paid numbers would cost $50 and $25, respectively.
