The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted Week of Excellence 2014 in its Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices from Sunday, August 31 until Thursday, September 4. The program for this initiative encompassed a series of workshops designed to increase employee productivity and urged them to share innovative ideas and proposals, birthing practical solutions to make a quantum leap in the way work is performed. Therefore, the employees can now be an active driving force, providing TRA customers with added service and benefits.
Dr. Jassim Al-Mulla, from Dubai Police, led the activities with a workshop entitled “Administrative Excellence and Creative Thinking”. The workshop exhibited examples on how to encourage staff to find solutions to challenges facing them, instead of complaining. Moreover, there was a lot of focus on the subject of customer care and how to achieve the highest levels of satisfaction. This topic was essential to provide good impressions of the institution, through systematically evaluating customer and staff satisfaction, reflecting positively on work done. The points raised in the workshop include a discussion about rewarding the best suggestion from a company, the importance of continuous effort and optimism towards the possibility of achieving success, and avoiding stereotypes at work. Also, an emphasis on creativity, its tools, obstacles and consequences, as well as creative thinking skills, fluency, flexibility, originality, details and sensitivity towards problems.
HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA commented on the move saying, “We pay plenty of attention to utilizing the utmost benefit from creativity and out-of-the-box ideas proposed by any of our employees. We aim to support them by providing all means that allow them to demonstrate these capabilities”. “The ‘Week of Excellence’ is created with the overall strategy of the UAE government in mind, involving all staff to take responsibility by playing an active role in providing solutions and opinions towards all issues relating to service development, contributing to the main goal of the overall development in the country,” he added.
The workshop witnessed a high degree of interaction and response from employees regarding the provision of solutions and proposals for several virtual problems and challenges, according to a set of theories and methods of work described by a coach. The raised points varied between starting new projects, improving conditions or the nature of currently provided services, or participating in the initiatives and activities that could make a quantum leap in the mechanism and method of work.
The “Week of Excellence” activities also included interactions and presentations, such as the “Corporate Self-Evaluation” workshop, held in cooperation with Dubai Police, and a presentation by Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University on “Positive Energy” inspired by the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
