Zain, the leading telecommunications company in Kuwait, in partnership with the non-profit en.v Initiative for the fifth consecutive year, announced the successful launch of the REUSE Live Art Installation Initiative.
The initiative, which was held at the Scientific Center from 17 – 19 April 2014, gathered together a large number of people to participate in creating a massive whale shaped art piece out of recycled materials.
Aiming to spread further awareness within the community to stress on the value of maintaining an environmentally friendly world, Zain invited the public to join the event by bringing along unwanted plastic bags and materials to take part in the large-scale art piece, which was specifically chosen to resemble a whale and convey the importance of marine life preservation and conservation.
The event brought together hundreds of people and their families to participate in creating a memorable art piece, while acknowledging the benefits of preserving a clean, pollution-free environment. Once completed, the whale installation will be exhibited in various public locations.
Additionally, various educational entities joined the participants, helping make a difference and spread the word of marine preservation and conservation. Zain affirmed its participation through its booth, where Zain employees organized an Origami workshop and welcomed visitors in order to educate them about the importance of being environmentally conscious. Zain employees also acted as advisors, directing people to create an art piece out of discarded materials.
Commenting on the success of the REUSE program, Waleed Al Khashti, Zain Kuwait’s Corporate Communications and Relations Manager said: “Zain’s Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability programs support factors that improve the lives of people in society, and tackling environmental issues is one of the most important areas we work in. We aim to promote a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a healthy environment, and so we intend to continue launching initiatives that serve that purpose both internally as well as externally. The REUSE program, in collaboration with en.v, is an excellent platform for both organizations to spread awareness and educate people about the preservation of the environment.”
REUSE is a program that extends to activities such as art competitions and educational roadshows, workshops, online environmental campaigns and community events. Going forward, REUSE will continue executing more projects that serve the interest of a greener tomorrow with the participation of the local community while supporting a collaborative effort in the reduction of waste in Kuwait for current and future generations.
