Ericsson determines three main requirements for developing telecommunication sector in region
Ericsson, the world leading company in communications technology and services has defined three main requirements for developing the telecommunication sector in the Arab region.
With the expanding mobile ecosystem coupled with demand for high-bandwidth applications and services will pressure the industry to increase the availability and quality of broadband connectivity. Realizing such measured delivery, it requires collaboration and commitment from all concerned aspects.
In order for these to be tackled would entail a ground ward up approach right from spectrum allocation, upgrading legacy networks, having built-in redundancy systems, complimentary service propositions at competitive price-point would be key aspect in ensuring connectivity is democratized.
Rafiah Ibrahim President Ericsson in the Middle East and north east Africa Region, said, “We in Ericsson believe in the potential of this region. We have been present in the Middle East for more than 120 years and we intend to contribute to the Middle East market for, at least, the same number of years.”
The Egyptian market in particular is witnessing a growing demand on mobile video services in addition to other new services such as banking and commercial services. We believe that the fourth network that is supposed to be launched will increase competitiveness among operators which will return with benefits on users. We expect growth in the 3G developed services due to the increasing demand on mobile broadband.
Some of the key challenges we are facing are economic and political instability, but we’ve had a need for communication since we were born and as the need for mobility will continue to grow. This will require though a lot of investments and will present the operators with the opportunity for them to be a part of the Networked Society.
Our focus will continue to be on driving the progression towards the Networked Society, in the Middle East region and beyond. In order to do this we will work hand in hand with our partners the operators to develop their infrastructures with our latest innovative technologies. We see tremendous potential when it comes to OSS/BSS, managed services and M2M.she remarked. We can witness a growing trend on how operators are shifting their strategies from network-centric to consumer-centric putting a greater emphasis on user experience and customer relationships and enhancing innovation, agility and speed.
We believe that managed services will optimize networks and customer experience, and that solutions such as M2M will provide alternative revenue streams for operators. Cloud-based services will increase competitiveness. She pointed out

Ericsson has wide potentials in this field ; we enjoy the local existence, the world expertise along with the strategies and required tools to provide required quality and achieve commercial benefits.
As for the development of the telecommunication sector, we had the voice service as a start, then came data and now the new wave which is the videos.in this regard today’s operators have a chance to benefit from their networks to provide new TV exciting services to their subscribers and this is one of the areas we focus on now in Ericsson.
By 2016, more than four billion smartphones will be in use globally, soaring data traffic will reach ten times the levels of today and subscribers in urban and metropolitan areas will create nearly 60% of this traffic. Heterogeneous networks tackle this challenge and turn it into opportunities for all. will be vital in the Networked Society. As smart city environments continue to develop, there will be increased pressure on networks due to the higher number of connected devices that empower smart city residents with a truly mobile lifestyle.
The progression towards the Networked Society, in which everything that can benefit from being connected will be connected, is continuous in the MENA region. There is still a way to go, but we can see significant steps being taken in several countries across the region.
The transformation to the Networked Society, is also happening across the region; Saudi Arabia has a highly developed 4G LTE network, which will form the backbone of the Networked Society by providing seamless connectivity to consumers. But we see other examples also, such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan that are connecting more and more to the digital express way. Even those countries with less developed telecom infrastructure are starting to adopt higher speed technologies that empower consumers in the digital evolution. The goal is to attain a certain stage of infrastructure maturity, which will empower the region to reap the benefits of the integrated and digital Networked Society.
The pace of development varies. Some countries, such as those in the GCC where the socio-economic growth is strong, are developing rapidly, whereas others are progressing at a slower rate – though there is still development occurring, particularly in Egypt and Iraq. Ericsson has developed the Networked Society City Index to identify and measure the extent and development of ICT-enabled benefits to cities across the region.
