ICT Fund receives Palestinian Academic Delegation to brief on the UAE ICT sector
The ICT Fund, a subsidiary of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has recently received an academic delegation composed of four Palestinian Universities at TRA Headquarter in Dubai. Aiming to get briefed on the ICT Fund’s experience in providing targeted funding for the national innovative and creative projects in the UAE ICT sector, the delegation also discussed cooperation opportunities and studied the implementation of the UAE ICT model in the academic and educational institutions in Palestine.
The academic delegation was received by H.E. Dr. Abdulqader Al Khayat, ICT Fund Chairman, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, Eng. Majed Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director General and ICT Fund Board member, and Eng. Omar Mohamed Al Mahmoud, ICT Fund Acting CEO. From the delegation’s end, the meeting was attended by Dr. Nizam Theab, Vice President for Community Affair at Arab American University of Jenin (AUJ), Dr. Abdel-Razzak Natsheh, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Information Systems at An Najah University, Dr. Labib Arafah, Dean, Najjad Zeenni Faculty of Engineering at Al Quds University, Ayman Sultan Al Tamimi, Planning and development manager at Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU), accompanied by USAID team that included Ihab Jabari, Ruba Jararr, ICT Program Specialist, Ghassan Al Jamal, Private Enterprise Office at USAID/US Embassy, and Tareq Touqan, Managing partner Equity Legal Group, Legal and policy consultant.
The aim of the meeting is to acquire knowledge and learn about ICT Fund experience and expertise within the ICT sector in the UAE, and to discuss where the Palestinian ICT sector stands in the meantime. The Palestinian delegation that is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development is keen to gain such knowledge which enables them to establish a similar fund to ICT Fund in Palestine. They are also seeking through this collaboration to facilitate joint research and development initiatives with the Palestinian private sector according to international standards.
H.E. Dr. Abdulqader Al Khayat, ICT Fund Chairman said: “We are very pleased to receive the Palestinian academic delegation. We aim to showcase ICT Fund’s experience in funding and supporting individuals, academic institutions and companies, and how the fund empowers them to develop the innovation and knowledge capital of the UAE ICT sector through education, applied and basic research, and entrepreneurship.”
He added: “ICT Fund’s continuous commitment to arrange mutual strategic meetings with local and regional partners and entities who are showing support for the ICT sector, is to raise the public awareness of enhance the educational capabilities for the communities through understanding their needs and helping them familiarize with modern world technologies. We are keen to provide the delegation with an the idea of the funding’s standards and methodologies, the benchmark for evaluations which is needed for the acceptance of technical projects, and examine the feasibility of investing in creative initiatives that contribute to the intellectual growth of the ICT sector.”
