Oman mobile phone subscriptions hit six million
Oman has seen a rise in mobile phone and internet subscriptions, a report from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) says.
According to ‘Number of Telecom Subscriber Service by Type’ report from NCSI the total number of mobile phone subscriptions in the sultanate reached 6,000,241 in September 2014, compared with 5,617,426 registered at the end of 2013, accounting for a growth of 6.8 per cent.
The number of post-paid mobile phone subscribers reached 515,431 by the end of September 2014 when compared with 495,703 by the end of 2013, reflecting an increase of four per cent, the NCSI report reveals.
During the same period, pre-paid mobile phone subscriptions increased by 7.1 per cent to 5,485,810 compared with 5,121,723 subscribers by the end of 2013.
The total number of internet subscribers in the sultanate increased by 6.8 per cent to 169,434 compared with 158,678 by the end of 2013, the figure includes fixed broadband and dial-up internet subscribers.
The total number of fixed broadband subscribers increased by 7.8 per cent to 166,257 compared with 154,290 registered by the end of 2013.
Meanwhile, internet dial-up subscribers declined by 27.6 per cent at the end of September 2014 to 3,177 compared with 4,388 registered by the end of 2013, the report says.
