Omantel ‘s efforts to expand network in villages hampered by red tape: CEO
Dr Amer bin Awadh Al Rawas, the chief executive of Omantel has said the long delay in obtaining approvals and licences from different government departments is slowing down the company’s planned network expansion in remote villages, Times of Oman has reported. The company has been planning to provide telecoms coverage in 100 villages within one year. “However, even after 14 months, we could complete only 13 villages due to delay in getting permission and licences from various ministries,” said Dr Al Rawas. “We have to get eight different licences for building stations, which include permission from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, municipality and civil aviation. For building towers, we have to meet certain safety measures,” Dr Al Rawas added.
