TRA supports 4th edition of ‘Autism Week’ in UAE
The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced its support for the UAE ‘Autism Week’ initiative organized by the ‘Emirates Autism Center’ in conjunction with World Autism Awareness Month. Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Development, the fourth annual edition of this event kicks off on the 23rd of April.
The TRA’s participation in this event comes within the framework of its wider CSR policy directed at supporting individuals with special needs in general and children who suffer from autism in specific, raising awareness about the importance of this topic, and urging the community to support this segment that needs special care and support.
“Providing care and support for people with special needs is one of the leading indicators that characterize modern and civilized societies. We at the TRA recognize the need to raise awareness on the importance of supporting children with autism and boosting social coordination efforts and solidarity in this issue. Supporting this event exemplifies the TRA’s commitment toward society concerns and comes as a result of our strong belief in the potentials of autistic children and their ability to be effective members in the society,” commented H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.
“In the UAE, we are witnessing a strong commitment toward this society segment as special care is dedicated for them. Moreover, the laws and regulations issued in this regard are a testament on the support provided by UAE in this area. Furthermore, establishing various centers and facilities to provide support and special services for children with autism indicate the huge endeavors and efforts done by UAE leaders in this area,” he added.
The ‘Autism Week’ is organized by ‘the Emirates Autism Center’ based in Abu Dhabi. The center which started its operations officially under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan on April 2008 is a private, non-profit institution featuring facilities and classrooms designed with the latest equipment and tools that cater to the need of autistic students.
