The management of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah announced that passenger numbers at the airport rose by 6.6 per cent and achieved a record 29.8 million passengers during 2015 for the first time.

Airport management reported that Umrah passenger traffic accounted for approximately 50 per cent of the total passenger movement in the Kingdom, while pilgrims accounted for more than 40 per cent of the total in 2015, reports UAE-based Aliqtisadi.

The number of travelers across the Hajj and Umrah halls reached eight million and the number of passengers in the South Terminal amounted to 15m, while the number of passengers in the North Hall (Hall of Foreigners) reached roughly 6.9m.

It is worth mentioning that the three-stage development of the new King Abdulaziz International Airport started in September 2006 and is currently slated for completion in 2016, with a scheduled passenger capacity of 30m a year.
