Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) announced Tuesday the launch of Ajman Tourism Award 2014; a periodic award that targets hotel establishments in the emirate.
Supported by CHA International; organizer of MENA Travel Awards, the Ajman Award comes in line with Ajman Vision 2021 and out of the ATDD’s adherence to the best practices adopted with regard to quality control on all tourism products in the emirate of Ajman, Faisal Al Nuaimi, the General Manager of ATDD, said during a news conference at Ajman Museum.
The Award was based on a mystery shopper project that was launched by ATDD in 2013 with the aim of establishing a mechanism to measure the quality of services and products offered by hotel establishments, he added.
This mechanism was a result of benchmarking and was adopted as part of efforts to review and develop standards for the development of the hospitality sector in the emirate of Ajman, he affirmed.
The idea of Ajman Tourism Award 2014 came during the planning for the mystery shoppers’ project which necessitated the rewarding of tourism sector partners who highly adhered to the classification standards adopted in Ajman and those who presented an added value for the tourism sector in the emirate, Al Nuaimi clarified.
For her part, Yamina Aoucher, the Director of Tourism Licensing and Standards at ATDD, said all hotel installations in Ajman were covered by the mystery shopper project and therefore included in Ajman Tourism Award 2014.
Hotel sector standards of quality service, including the level of cleanness, reception, rooms, and providing hotel services, in general, are all part of the Hotel Classification Guide issued and implemented by hotels and hotel apartments one year ago, she added.
Categories of Ajman Tourism Award 2014 are as follows: the best five-star hotel, best four-star hotel, best two-star hotel, best one-star hotel, best superior hotel apartment and best standard hotel apartment, Aoucher stated.
Winners of Ajman Tourism Award 2014 will be announced and honored during the MENA Travel Award ceremony, to be held at Conrad Dubai hotel on May 7th, she said.
Dr. Sam Saker, Chairman of CHA International; organizer of MENA Travel Award, said his organization supported Ajman Award after ATDD enrolled for MENA Travel Award.
ATDD was courageous to compete in two categories; best tourism authority and best tourism project, and gained a high percentage of voting; a case that garnered interest of CHA International officials and made them take the decision to support Ajman Award which aimed to improve tourism services in Ajman, Saker concluded.
