Al Bustan Rotana, Rotana’s flagship property in Dubai and one of the city’s most established five star hotels recently made a significant mark in the Rotana history by earning the internationally-recognized ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management Systems.
In line with its advancements in sustainability standards, the renowned property successfully garnered this important achievement recently.
ISO 14001 is ‘an international standard that provides a set of standardized requirements for environmental management systems. Companies gain certification by implementing policies, procedures and systems that follow and meet ISO standards, which are assessed by a third-party certification body’.
Muhammad Ihsanullah, Cluster Director of Environment, Health and Safety at Al Bustan Rotana and Al Murooj Rotana drove the successful project. He commented, “The whole process included an extensive series of initiatives towards environmental sustainability in all facets of our hotel operations. It required a lot of internal coordination and my colleagues’ cooperation combined with their active involvement was truly invaluable. It was definitely an opportunity for us to showcase our teamwork, which paved the way for our success in this project.” To get ISO 14001 certified by the International Organization for Standardization ISO, Al Bustan Rotana Dubai implemented strategic changes, including reducing & saving on energy consumption (electricity, LPG gas and fuel) in the hotel premises to protect local resources & to reduce atmospheric pollution, reducing noise pollution that may cause discomfort to the guests, colleagues, contractors, suppliers, visitors and neighbours; monitoring and reducing mix waste, monitoring and segregating recyclables, separating medical waste, e-waste and hazardous waste and much more.”
This certification reinforces the constant efforts of the company to protect local and global nature, by using environmentally-friendly products and technologies. Al Bustan Rotana Dubai has made significant progress in sustainability measurement throughout the last several years leading up to its recent ISO 14001certification.
