February is a month where everyone talks about love, not just a love to your better half or family but a love that you can extend to a person who is in need of it. Centro Sharjah by Rotana has taken a bold step to add Harrison’s Fund to their CSR activities for the whole month of February.
Harrison’s Fund is a named after to the son of Alex and Donna Smith, named Harrison. The boy was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). His muscles are deteriorating at an alarming rate. By the time he’s a teenager Harrison will lose the ability to walk and eventually lose all muscle function in his body. Latest global research indicates that currently no cure on this disease and approximately 1 in every 2,400 boys worldwide are born with DMD; they die, on average age of about 16 years old.
Michael Kasch, Acting General Manager, said, “Each of us has a social responsibility and we as a hotel felt that the opportunity existed for us to invest some effort and creativity to contribute to create global awareness about DMD.”
To increase the awareness on DMD, Centro Sharjah will organize three activities within the vicinity of the hotel. First will be the Zumba-“Dance For A Cause that will take place on the 21st of February 2014, followed by Yoga-“YOGA with Benefits” on the 28th of February and recreation competition-“Challenge Me… If You Dare” that will happened continuously in the whole month of February.
“Harrison’s Fund is an important cause that needs much attention and support to find a cure for DMD,” Michael added.
The fee to be part of this very important and fun event is AED 50 that includes t-shirt (sponsored by Giordano), Zumba session (sponsored by Fitness First), discount voucher from Centro Sharjah and Giordano, a healthy and energy booster drink plus a Photo Booth (sponsored by The Social Booth) at AED 10 for every photo memory.
All proceeds that will be collected from all the participants will be donated to Harrison’s Fund as beneficiary.

For the past three years since the inception of Centro Sharjah, the hotel has been active with several community services. The hotel’s initiative confirmed the commitment of Centro Sharjah to its core values of respect and integrity demonstrated by giving back to the community and help those in need.
