A dream-come-true opportunity for many fashion stars of tomorrow and a repertoire of proud moments for their parents – Modhesh Summer Fashion has been a special occasion for the families of several residents and visitors from around the world who have taken in their hearts fond memories of the week-long event at Dubai Festival City Mall.
Organized as part of the 17th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), which will run until 5 September this year, the unique attraction has further cemented Dubai’s position as a family-favorite destination, offering loved ones more reasons than one to celebrate together and carve out cheerful memories in the form of one-of-a-kind experiences they will remember forever.
From head-turning fashion shows on the ramp to creative workshops, insightful seminars, stylish photo shoots and face painting sessions – each component of Modhesh Summer Fashion has brought a smile on the faces of the shoppers at the mall. The finale on 12 August was also nothing short of extraordinary with plenty of surprises headlining the entertainment quotient of the event and ensuring that there was never a dull moment.
One such surprise was unwrapped in the form of little stars from the Emirates Autism Society walking the catwalk and stealing the show as they began to flaunt like professional models before the cheery audiences. Be it their confidence or the graceful moves, these special kids left every spectator in awe of their impressive performance on stage.
“One of the key objectives of our organization is to provide our kids with various means to be a part of the society. Events such as Modhesh Summer Fashion gives them the perfect opportunity to recognize that they are an integral part of the community. I am very thankful to the organizers for giving our kids the chance to participate in these fashion shows,” said Khawla Alsaeedi, Chairman of the Emirates Autism Society.
“Initially, I was concerned that the kids might find it difficult to participate. But I am so glad that I believed in them. I was over the moon to see their little feet walk the ramp just like other boys and girls who participated in the show. I’m very proud of their achievement today. And, I look forward to seeing them, more of them, participating in events like these in the future,” Khawla added.
Boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 14 years strutted down the runway to showcase the trendy line-up of dresses and accessories by Babyshop followed by the second fashion show featuring branded ensembles by PS by Aeropostale and Skechers. The final segment brought attention to little models wearing sportswear from Stadium and a style-studded assortment from Forever 21.
Modhesh, Dubai’s favorite mascot, stepped up the excitement further when he came along to congratulate the participating kids and handed out certificates. He also entertained the audience with a spectacular dance performance along with stilt-walkers and other engaging characters.
The event inspired the young members of the audience too. Harshit Virdi, a young boy from India, said, “I loved the show! The participating kids looked great and happy. I hope I can participate in the event next year.”
Brothers Abdullah and Abdulrahman Ahmad Al Kaabi, Qatari kids based in Sharjah, also shared the same sentiments. “The boys and girls looked stunning in those dresses. It was great fun to watch them,” said Abdulrahman.
The 17th edition of DSS is organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and will run until 5 September this year, under the theme, “The Fun Side of Summer.”
