The Trade, Tourism and Investment Office of Peru in the United Arab Emirates is pleased to announce its return to ATM with a National Pavilion, supported by seven leading Peruvian travel specialists. Peru boasted 3.2 million tourists in the last year, representing 11.2% year-on-year growth, a figure expected to rise by a further 10 % in 2014.
According to the Ministry of Trade and Tourism in Peru, five million tourists are expected by 2016, and eight million by 2021, which is not an insurmountable projection, given the news of the construction of a, and the expansion program planned for Lima International Airport.
The United Arab Emirates is of great importance to Peru as it attracts growing numbers of Emirati travelers and tourists. This interest has been helped by the growing awareness of Peru’s rich culture. The country is ranked among the world’s ten most preferred destinations, according to Ernst & Young, and Machu Picchu has been recently named the top landmark destination in the world by the leading travel website TripAdvisor.
Located on the central west coast of South America, Peru is a magical destination, one of the richest biodiversity hotspots on Earth and a colorful mosaic of different cultures. Peru is steeped in over 10,000 years of history, travelers to Peru can therefore explore some of the most important historic monuments of South America, including the world-renowned Machu Picchu, which is now counted as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, and Lima, the country’s vibrant capital city, also known as the ‘city of kings’.
However it’s not just Peru’s physical attributes that are attracting the growing numbers of tourists. According to the Ernst & Young Peru Business & Investment Guide 2014/2015, 42% of the tourists visiting this country say that Peruvian cuisine is one of the aspects that most influences their choice of Peru as a tourist destination. Peru was awarded the World’s Leading Culinary Destination at the World Travel Awards in December 2013 for the second consecutive year.
At ATM 2014 Alvaro Silva-Santisteban, Director of the Trade, Tourism and Investment Office of Peru in the UAE commented: “Very few countries can boast coastlines, deserts, mountains and jungle; fewer can say that they have been Empires, and even fewer still can talk about their worldwide recognized gastronomy. Home to one of the New 7 wonders of the World Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, Lake Titicaca amongst other highlights make Peru’s 5,000 years of History and its infinite bio-diversity a must visit destination. There is a Peru for everyone; we invite you to discover Peru.”
