The Sharjah stand at ITB Berlin has been attracting huge attention and a number of top officials and leaders of the international tourism industry and German and European media. Among those visiting the Sharjah stand to meet HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority included HE Taleb Rifai, Secretary General, United Nations World Tourism Organisation, and a number of senior officials and dignitaries.
During the meetings, Al Noman shined light on the various aspects of Sharjah’s tourism experience – unique culture, tourism, leisure and recreation – and a number of other attractions including world-class tourism infrastructure and services and a range of international festivals and activities lined up for the tourists this year and next year, in view of the Emirate’s celebrations as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014 and its crowning as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015.
On this occasion, Al Noman presented a commemorative gift on behalf of Sharjah and the Authority to UNWTO Secretary General Dr Taleb Rifai.
On the other hand, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, received Dr. Martin Buck Director Messe Berlin, the host of ITB Berlin. Al Midfa stressed Sharjah’s interest and eagerness in being part of the premier international exhibition in the German capital for all these years.
Al Midfa said that the SCTDA has been keen to constantly improve Sharjah’s participation in ITB Berlin making it more attractive and diverse, year after year, reflecting the diversity and richness of Sharjah’s tourism product and destination in all aspects, tourism, culture and leisure etc.
Al Midfa said that the ITB Berlin offers members of Sharjah’s delegation and industry stakeholders a great opportunity to interact with other destinations and major players of the travel and tourism sector.
Meanwhile the Sharjah pavilion at ITB Berlin, being held from March 5 to 9, continues to attract a huge number of visitors who are offered a peek into the Emirate’s rich Arab and Islamic heritage, culture and life in Sharjah.
The dedicated Heritage Corner is hugely popular with visitors as it features live performances and activities celebrating the best of UAE’s culture, cuisine, dates, folklore, arts including henna-painting etc.
In addition to two large interactive screens installed at Sharjah pavilion offering the visitors a rare and personal experience of the Emirate and its attractions, festivals and events, visitors are also offered promotional literature and leaflets and brochures in English and German about Sharjah and all that it has to offer.
Led by the SCTDA Chairman HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, the Sharjah delegation includes Environment & Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), Sharjah Airport Authority, Air Arabia, Sharjah Museums Department, Sharjah National Hotels (Holiday International, Marbella resort and the Oceanic Resort and Spa), Hilton Sharjah, Radisson Blu Sharjah, Coral Beach Resort, Hotel Copthorne Sharjah and Cozmo Travel etc.
It is worth mentioning that the ITB Berlin is one of the largest international specialized exhibitions of the industry. Being held from March 5 to 9, this is the 48th edition of the prestigious event in the German capital bringing together more than 10,000 exhibitors and attracting more than 170,000 visitors. It is considered an ideal meeting ground and networking platform for the movers and shakers of the global tourism industry, decision makers, media and visitors.
