Proving that their prowess extends beyond the arena of investment, The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) recently took part in the Dubai Companies Cup. Organised by the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) since 2012, the Cup aims to offer an opportunity for national and international companies to show their sporting skills throughout a day share with friends and colleagues.
The 3rd Dubai Companies cup took place on the 28th of February this year and saw teams of up to 12 athletes compete in seven categories: soccer, fitness challenge, rope pulling, table soccer, car rally, wall climbing and the obstacle race.
Taking part in the soccer category, Shurooq’s team progress unchallenged through four rounds of fifteen-minute five-a-side football matches before narrowly ceding first place in the final to take home the silver medal.
Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), commented, “We are extremely proud of our team’s success at the Cup. In today’s fast-paced world it is easy to lose sight of the importance of physical activities and time spend with friend and colleagues in friendly competition, yet these are things that are vital to maintaining our balance and a healthy state of mind and body. We might not have brought home the gold, this time, but the experience was worth far more than any medal – and of course there is always next year.”
