On Sunday 22 December 2013, the team at The Oberoi, Dubai, one of the newest five star luxury hotels in the UAE, spearheaded a ‘We Love Business Bay’ neighbourhood clean-up, the first in a series of planned events that reflect the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and its local community.
Volunteers from The Oberoi, Dubai team spent the morning combing the area around the hotel, including the 2.8km canal which flows past the property, for various objects that were later sorted and recycled. Over 65 large bin bags were collected, a testament to the hard work of the team.
Karim Bizid, General Manager of The Oberoi, Dubai joined the clean-up operation and said: “Dubai’s successful bid for Expo 2020 has helped amplify the ambition that we all share in building a better future for the UAE. Increasing awareness of the importance of sustainability amongst hotel guests and in the workplace is part of The Oberoi Group’s ongoing training for hotel employees and their families and is demonstrated by the use of natural products, recycling programmes, and ensuring proper use of diminishing resources.
